About Sigrid
Dr. Sigrid Fry-Revere is a respected lawyer and bioethicist known for her work in ethical healthcare solutions, especially regarding the critical shortage of organ donors worldwide. She holds both a law degree and a Ph.D. in philosophy from Georgetown University, giving her a deep foundation in law and ethics. Sigrid’s passion for organ donation stems from a personal place: her son’s battle with kidney cancer and her own experience of being rejected as a kidney donor. This fueled her decision to investigate organ donation on a global scale. Her most notable achievement is being the first Westerner to closely study and document the kidney donation system in Iran. Iran is the only country in the world that has successfully eliminated its kidney waiting list. Her groundbreaking research and detailed journey resulted in her highly acclaimed and controversial book, The Kidney Sellers: A Journey of Discovery in Iran. As a former Director of Bioethics Studies at the Cato Institute, Sigrid now directs two public, non-partisan charities that she founded: The Center for Ethical Solutions and Stop Organ Trafficking Now. She focuses much of her activism on supporting living organ donors, arguing that removing legal blocks—such as covering their medical expenses and lost wages—is an ethical way to encourage more donations without creating an illegal organ market. Her continuing advocacy aims to save lives by ensuring greater respect and support for those who make the sacrifice of donating an organ.
