About Debra

Debra Jarvis is an ordained minister, respected author, and experienced hospital chaplain who specializes in supporting people through serious illness, death, and grief. She is often called the “irreverent reverend” because she uses a unique blend of honest conversation and humor, believing that being funny can be a powerful kind of medicine, even during life’s most serious moments. For many years, Debra worked as an oncology chaplain where she helped patients and their families cope with cancer. She also served as a hospice chaplain, guiding people through the end of life, and worked with volunteer groups helping those with illnesses like AIDS. This work is deeply personal to her, as she is also a breast cancer survivor. Debra continues her mission to help others by focusing on writing, speaking, and her podcast. She is the author of the popular book, It’s Not About the Hair: And Other Certainties of Life & Cancer, which shares her witty and compassionate views on facing major challenges. She is also the producer and host of “The Final Say: Conversations with People Facing Death.” This podcast creates an open, comfortable space for listeners to talk about death and what it means to truly live. Debra lives in Seattle, Washington, and frequently travels to share her powerful messages at events across the globe.
