Mehmood Khan

Mehmood Khan, M.D., is Chief Executive Officer, Global Nutrition Group and Chief Scientific Officer of PepsiCo, the food and beverage company with the most billion-dollar brands worldwide. Dr. Khan leads PepsiCo’s efforts to create new products and categories that accelerate growth of the Company’s diversified portfolio of food and beverage brands. He was appointed Chief Scientific Officer in 2008 and Chief Executive Officer, Global Nutrition Group, in 2010.

As Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Khan leads Company-wide research and development and has overseen PepsiCo’s expanded investment in R&D by recruiting highly regarded clinical scientists, global health leaders and medical experts. Under his leadership the Company has launched research projects with leading universities around the world, and opened new advanced R&D facilities.

As CEO, Global Nutrition Group, Dr. Khan leads a specialized, global team of 100 experts in nutrition, medicine, research, science, marketing/branding, ingredient sourcing, and product innovation. He directs PepsiCo’s enterprise planning, portfolio development, and execution of new technology to accelerate growth of a global architecture for the Company’s nutrition-focused brands, across four specific areas: grains (Quaker), fruits (Tropicana), vegetables (Sabra) and dairy (Wimm-Bill-Dann).

This crossover role is unique within the global food and beverage industry, permitting a single point of linkage between R&D and core businesses and brands within the context of health & wellness. With the creation of the Global Nutrition Group, PepsiCo is one of only two food and beverage companies worldwide with an operation dedicated to health & wellness.

Before joining PepsiCo, Dr. Khan was President, Takeda Global Research & Development Center, overseeing Takeda Pharmaceuticals Company’s worldwide research and development efforts.

Previously, Dr. Khan was a faculty member at the Mayo Clinic and Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minn., serving as Director of the Diabetes, Endocrine and Nutritional Trials Unit in the division of endocrinology. Prior to the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Khan spent nine years leading programs in diabetes, endocrinology, metabolism, and nutrition for the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. He earned his medical degree from the University of Liverpool Medical School, England. Dr. Khan lives in Chicago with his wife, Shahida.
