We're doing this through a connected platform for doctors, patients, hospitals, pharmacies and labs. Praxify has an IPAD & web based specialty specific Electronic Health Record cum Practice Management Solution and the patient can manage their records on their mobile. Its Zero-Type design ensures easier adaptability by doctors and is compliant with HL7, HIPAA and DICOM standards.
Q: Please tell us how your business idea was conceived. Was there an "aha" moment or did it evolve gradually?
A: I am passionate about changing the healthcare ecosystem because of a personal turmoil faced by my family. My mother had drug-induced diabetes due to overdosing on drugs administered by different specialists. A skin specialist had prescribed steroids, as did an orthopaedic specialist who was treating a slipped disc. She suffered from the doctors' lack of awareness of redundant prescriptions. Had there been a way for either to view a summary of my mother's medications, or a system to warn either of these doctors against prescribing a drug, her ordeal could have been avoided.
Q: What's the most inventive, innovative, or disruptive aspect of your initiative?
A: The initiative is to fundamentally change how people perceive healthcare today. Technology advancements have improved medical equipment and drugs, but doctors and hospitals are far from using technology to prescribe and take notes. The pen and paper scribbling of prescriptions has not changed since 1857. We intend to provide a democratic view on healthcare where patients truly become the center of the ecosystem. Healthcare will evolve from being the judgment of one or two doctors to a determination based on the collective intelligence of hundreds and thousands of cases at the point of care. This will enable change in how healthcare is delivered and address the skewed doctor-patient ratio that exists today.
Q: How will it help people live to their greatest potential or contribute to making the world healthier?
A: Today we have over 1 million patients on our platform and are set to cross 10 million in the next quarter through our existing customers. Imagine having mobile access to automatically updated records from labs, pharmacies, hospitals, and insurance providers. Imagine the power to manage your own and your loved ones' health records, being able to order medications for doorstep delivery within 30 minutes from your mobile device, ordering housecall from the lab to draw your sample, and sharing records with any doctor in the world through a CCDA format.
Q: Five years from now, what would you like to be able to say has been your most important contribution to health?
A: A billion people during my lifetime are going to be born and will die having never seen a physician. We aim to ensure that atleast 50 percent of them can get remote access to healthcare through our platform. In a country like India, only half the population has access to toilets, but three-fourths have access to mobile phones. We are using this to connect the healthcare ecosystem between a rural patient and a doctor in the city via our TeleMedicine portal integrated with our Electronic Health Record system.
Q: What single word or phrase best describes the culture of your startup and why?
A: Integrate for a Democratized Healthcare Future. We have truly democratized healthcare access in a disconnected healthcare ecosystem like India by integrating over 40 hospitals, 118 labs, 126 pharmacies, and real-time insurance with our patients.
